How do I become a
Lifesaver?
The Bronze Medallion award teaches participants general surf awareness and
skills (including rescue techniques), basic first aid and patrolling
capabilities.
In addition to the Bronze Medallion award there are several other life
saving certificates that can be obtained. These include IRB Drivers,
Training Officer Certificate, Advanced Resuscitation Certificate and First
Aid. These courses are run throughout the year, as required.
Surf lifesaving, particularly at Gunnamatta which is a very challenging
beach, provides young people the opportunity to contribute to the safety of
the community while at the same time gaining character development, new
friendships and a healthy summer activity.

Bronze Medallion
Gunnamatta is a relatively small friendly club
consisting of 60 active members and 40 associate members. With the ever
growing popularity of the Peninsula and improved
access to Gunnamatta, the Club is looking to increase its active membership
base.
The Club conducts a live-in Bronze Medallion camp in
December of each year. This camp provides intensive training for up to 30
new members in the skills required to become Surf Lifesavers and patrol at Gunnamatta Beach. Other weekend training may be
provided. Members would then be allocated to a patrol which would be
rostered on approximately 7 days during the season. The Bronze camp is
where you obtain your Bronze Medallion, the main award for surf life
savers. This award is open to people of 15 years and older.
